In ‘Natya Shastra’, one of the world’s oldest & the greatest treatises on drama, the Indian sage Bharat Muni, defines drama as: "Of the actions and conduct of people, rich in various emotions, depicting different situations. This relates to actions of men good, bad and different and gives courage, amusement, happiness, and advice to all of them." This theory has been the backbone of Indian Theatre which was the center of all artistic activities in our country right from the ancient times, as this very Natya Shastra puts it, "There is no such knowledge, no such craft, no such education, no such art, no such yoga, no such activity, which can not be seen in theatre." It was the popular medium of the concerns, foils, foibles, entertainment and all other human emotions to be presented on the stage in the country right from the ancient times to this day.
